In forex markets there are two possible positions: 

1. Long position in which someone buys the base currency and simultaneously sells the quote currency.

2. Short position in which someone sells the base currency and simultaneously buys the quote currency.

In EUR/USD pair, long means buying the euro and selling the dollar and short means selling the euro and buying the dollar.
